Site Policies

The following are the Copyright, Disclosure, and Comment Policies for About Alternative Cars.

Copyright (C) and Reprint Policy

This site and all of its contents, unless otherwise noted, are copyright (C) 2010 by Aaron Turpen, all rights reserved.

Content on this site may be reproduced on other websites provided the following provisions are met:

  1. The copied content must be clearly attributed to “Aaron Turpen” or “About Alternative Cars” as the author and there must be a link back to this website–either the main page or a direct link to the original content.  This is not an either/or proposition, BOTH conditions must be met: attribution and link back.
  2. If this site’s owner, for any reason, requests that your copy/publication of this site’s content be removed from your site(s), you must do so immediately.
  3. Regardless of where this site’s content may be published or reproduced, this site’s owner retains all rights to the content of this website unless otherwise agreed, in writing.
  4. None of the content on this website may be reproduced, in whole or in part, in print publication(s) of any kind without the express written consent of the site’s owner.

These rules are pretty simple and for most website owners and bloggers are fairly standard fare.  If you have any questions about these policies or would like to request a specific agreement for content, please don’t hesitate to contact me about it.

Disclosure Policy

In order to comply with the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) new rules, this disclosure statement is being posted.

This blog creates income through advertising.  That advertising takes the form of direct or affiliate ads appearing on pages/posts.  No paid reviews, “hidden links” or other forms of advertising are used here.

Direct Advertising - Direct advertising on this site includes graphical ads, text link ads (Google AdSense and similar), etc.

All advertising on this site that is of this form is clearly marked or obviously presented as such.  Wherever possible, About Alternative Cars and its owner, Aaron Turpen, ensure that it is clear that the advertising is not part of the content.

Affiliate Links - Some links within posts/article entries and on the site’s pages itself are affiliate links.  Except where these are part of Direct Advertising, these links are clearly marked as affiliate links.  Links appearing within posts, articles, and pages that are affiliate links will be marked as such.  Graphical advertising that includes affiliate links will also be clearly noted as advertising.

Paid Reviews - Reviews of products, services, or items on this site are considered to be done without payment or compensation.  About Alternative Cars does not conduct paid or compensated reviews of any kind.

Comment Policy

Comments have several purposes to both the site’s owner (myself) and its readers (you).  I, of course, get more information, learn more, and get to see who it is that’s reading my blog.  You get link-backs to your own website or blog, get to build your credibility, and can introduce me and the readers here to what your site has to offer.

With all of that said, there are three things I will not tolerate for commentary on this blog:

  1. Totally negative hate speech towards specific individuals or groups. Hate on politicians, government agencies, stupid marketing groups, etc. all you want.  I don’t like them either.  But don’t target individual names, societal groups (gays, Christians, stay-at-home moms, or whatever), etc. when you do say negative things.  Hate speech is not tolerated here and it is to the site owner’s discretion as to what constitutes hate speech that requires filtering.
  2. Comments meant only as self-promotion tools. If you have nothing to say, don’t say it.  If your response to a post on this blog is merely to generate a link-back to your own site, there’s a pretty good chance it will never appear on this site.  I filter posts that are nothing but self-promoting propaganda.
  3. Family unfriendly and/or explicitly sexual comments. This should be obvious.  As an aside, on a related note, profanities will likely be edited out of your comment (replaced with *** or the like) as well.

In short, if you question something said, a source cited, or otherwise disagree with conclusions in an article posted on About Alternative Cars, feel free to dissent.  Discussion is good for the mind and broadens everyone’s perspective.
